EMPACT PMF seminar

7 November 2023 - Privately made firearms (PMFs), including hybrid and fully 3D-printed firearms, are changing the landscape of gun crime in many regions, with law enforcement agencies in North America and Europe seeing dramatically increasing proportions of PMFs among seized firearms. Detection and identification of these guns and components is a challenge for police, as there is a proliferation of models, materials and parts. Can computer vision and other forms of artificial intelligence contribute to detecting and identifying these items? T4T was pleased to take part in a two-day EMPACT seminar on law enforcement strategies to document and respond to the growing threat of PMFs and 3D-printed firearms in particular. It is an ongoing challenge, and T4T hopes to continue to contribute to these discussions in the context of the EMPACT family of law enforcement and partner organisations and industry representatives.
