Applying New Technologies to Enhance Arms and Ammunition Controls

Tech 4 Tracing (T4T) is an international, US-based non-profit working to apply new technologies to arms and ammunition control.

T4T aims to augment the capabilities of actors involved in arms and ammunition identification and tracing globally, by creating automated and accurate tools to lower the costs doing this work, increase the number of actors who could contribute, and empower qualified actors to disrupt illicit arms and ammunition trafficking and misuse, bring perpetrators of armed violence to justice, and contribute to safer societies.

T4T’s current project work has the following objectives:

  • incubate, test and deploy innovative technologies for capturing, cataloging, and comparing small arms and light weapons and ammunition data;
  • enhance the automated visual detection of munitions and ordnance detection using sophisticated modelling techniques;
  • stimulate productive engagement between the new technology and arms control sectors; and
  • build partnerships with peacekeeping, law enforcement, and human rights investigation communities to improve their abilities to understand and address illicit arms flows,
