Tech 4 Tracing (T4T) is an agile non-profit applied technology lab that builds and helps deploy custom artificial intelligence tools to address the manifold threats of illicit arms and ammunition, landmines, and explosives of all types.
We provide partners with tools and expertise needed to operate in challenging and dangerous environments. Our technology systems are built using our GDRP-compliant synthetic data and custom-tailored for any camera system. We support global arms control policy implementation, rapid emergency response, humanitarian mine action, human rights investigations and counter-trafficking initiatives.
Learn More →T4T builds custom, high-performance landmine detection algorithms to order for humanitarian and emergency mine action actors running non-technical surveys. Our detectors are tailored to specific deployment contexts, devices and sensors and, unlike other systems, run offline and on-device, providing resilience against electromagnetic interference.
T4T’s mine detection algorithms make use of our own custom-built 3D models generated using photogrammetry on authentic FFE explosive ordnance. Our method leads to millimetre-accurate models and algorithm training models that are visually indistinguishable from the real objects, as well as rugged replicas that are suitable for explosive ordnance disposal training and explosive ordnance risk eduction.
Conflict monitors, watchdogs and, increasingly, citizens themselves are generating enormous datasets of video, images and other information in conflict-affected areas where international human rights and international humanitarian law violations take place. So much data is being generated that manual reviews are no longer feasible. T4T’s weapons detection algorithms make searching video and image archives effective and quick, generating leads for investigators to follow-up in a fraction of the time.
Seized and recovered ammunition is rarely documented, and does not contribute to understanding patterns of illicit and diverted ammunition. One of the main roadblocks is obsolete data collection methods. T4T is building the Small Caliber Ammunition Reference Table (SMART), the world’s first AI-powered visual profile dataset of firearm ammunition.
T4T is an active NGO participant in high-level global arms control processes, including for the UN small arms and conventional ammunition instruments, where our expert technical inputs are designed to help Member States separate the contributions that AI can make from the hype. Our CEO has briefed the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General has highlighted our contributions to arms control policy discussions.
